No Labor Day Fireworks Display at Rhode River in 2013
Firework technician Harry Basiliko and his crew, who lit off the fireworks for 14 years at Rhode River, have retired.

For just about the first time in 14 years, there will be no fireworks lighting up the sky over Rhode River in Edgewater on Labor Day this year.
Edgewater resident Harry Basiliko and the crew of Fireworks for All—who have been putting on the display for more than a decade—have retired, and no alternate display has been planned.
From the Edgewater Patch Facebook Page:
"On behalf of Casa Rio Marina and everyone who enjoyed the Labor Day Fireworks Display in the Rhode River every year we would like to thank Harry the "Fuse", Charles the "Firecracker" and Sonny the "Collector" for 14 years of fantastic displays and time given to the community by these guys and their helpers. The show for 2012 was the final display for this geriatric group of men and I know there are a lot of people that don't realize that there will be no fireworks display on the Rhode River this year. Be sure and share this with all of your neighbors and friends. Any comments you would like to make I will make sure they get them. THANKS GUYS"
There were some efforts to organize and alternate fireworks event this year that did not come to fruition.
"Unfortunately, although there was a grass roots effort to resurrect the Fireworks, there will not be a Fireworks event this year. We are hoping that we can bring back the wonderful Fireworks event in the next year or two," Ellen Ponder, who lives on the river, wrote in an email.
Did you attend any of the Rhode River Fireworks displays in previous years? What will you do this year in its stead?
