PHOTOS: Southern Anne Arundel County Relay for Life
Despite the rain, hundreds gathered to celebrate life and raise money for cancer research on Friday night.
More than 200 people filled a stuffy, humid South River gymnasium Friday night for a massive fundraising event, the Southern Anne Arundel County Relay for Life.
Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, hundreds of volunteers and dozens of to benefit cancer research.
During the event, participants hosted table-side trinkets to raise additional money for the American Cancer Society, and also walked around the makeshift "track" inside . The event was supposed to be outside, but due to rain and a nasty evening forecast it was moved indoors, according to organizer and South River High teacher Wes Baker.

Baker, his planning team and volunteers had to move all of their decorations and tables from the JV athletic field to inside the school's gymnasium, cafeteria and hallways. Despite the rain clouds, laughter and joy filled the school for the Relay for Life event.
