Road to Varsity Football Begins for Kids Next Week
South River High's youth football camp begins next week, allowing kids as young as 6 to compete on the varsity turf field.

The road to begins for many young boys throughout the region, when the school hosts its full-day youth camp starting next week.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, kids as young as age 6 can practice and train on the , dreaming of competing one day as a Seahawk.
Camp director and varsity football coach Lance Clelland is set to host the camp after leading the Seahawks to an unprecedented season in his first year as head coach. Last season, Clelland and his team led the state in passing offense and passing touchdowns. The squad also set school records in points scored, total offense, passing yards and touchdowns.

The camp gives kids 30 hours of organized and safe instruction while offering them a head-start to their fall football season. Athletes will learn advanced offense and defensive plays and schemes while giving each camper a chance to play multiple positions, according to the camp flyer.
“The main objective is to have fun in a positive learning environment,” the flyer said.

Clelland and his staff will also work with athletes to stress the importance of conditioning, agility and hard work, according to the flyer.
Tuition for the camp costs $200 but only a $75 deposit is necessary with each application. Walk-ons are also welcome, Clelland told Patch. There’s also a family discount for any family that enrolls two or more kids in the camp or any team that enrolls five or more players.
