South Maryland 11-12 All Stars Make Championship Push

The local Little Leaguers are set to compete in the district championship on Tuesday in Davidsonville.

South Maryland Little League’s (SMLL) 11-12 All-Stars blew out their opponent 18-0 on Saturday at Bottner Field after pouring on 12 runs in the second inning.

Ryan Jack racked up two RBI on two hits for SMLL. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the third inning.

Andrew Kelly shut down Laurel while he was on the mound. Kelly gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his two innings of work.

SMLL pounded Laurel pitching, as seven hitters combined for 10 hits, nine RBI and 16 runs scored.

SMLL never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring two runs on an RBI triple by Alexander Rozner and a wild pitch. 

Marceron leads South Maryland to 21-2 victory

Following SMLL’s victory on Saturday, Brad Marceron carried the team to a 21-2 victory over Forest Park on Sunday at Bottner Field with a strong game at the plate and on the bump.

The youngster racked up four RBI on three hits for SMLL. He doubled in the first and second innings and singled in the fourth inning.

Marceron shut down Forest Park while he was on the mound. Forest Park managed just one hit off of Marceron, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his 1 2/3 innings of work.

Eleven runs in the first three innings helped SMLL blow out Forest Park. An RBI double by Alexander Rozner, a passed ball, an RBI double by Marceron, an RBI double by Seamus Galway, a passed ball, and an error in the first inning and an RBI double by Marceron and an RBI single by Galway during the second inning fueled SMLL’s offense early.

Ryan Jack got the win for SMLL. He allowed one run over 1 1/3 innings. Jack struck out four, walked one and gave up one hit.

SMLL hammered Forest Park pitching as hitters had a field day:

Alex Cordon two hits, Ross Owens two hits, Nikko Boogades two hits, Kyle Corder one hit, Chris Arnold three RBI’s.

Outstanding defense turned in by Joey Wiggins who sprinted to the right field corner and threw a strike to gun down the speedy Forest Park runner trying to make it to second base on one of only four balls put in play by Forest Park.

South Maryland is scheduled to play at 6 p.m. Tuesday. At Bottner field in Davidsonville for the Maryland District 4 championship against the winner of Monday’s game between Laurel and Forest Park.
