South River Defeat Broadneck, Will Face Old Mill

Second baseman Joe Scott set a new school record for runs scored in a season.

South River’s baseball team took out their frustrations on visiting Broadneck in the opening round of the playoffs with a 9-1 victory Friday afternoon.

The game served as a small piece of redemption after the Seahawks lost to the Bruins last week, 6-2.

Scott Mitchell took the mound and was dominant, cruising through five innings allowing just one run. He struck out two, walked one and surrendered six hits on the way to the win. Austin Wright took over in the sixth and held Broadneck to no hits in two innings. He walked none and struck out two.

Offensively the Seahawks jumped on Broadneck starter Mike Thomas when Joe Scott lined the first of his three hits into centerfield. After advancing on a wild pick-off throw to first base, he scored on Nick Sia’s single to right field. South River then added three runs in the fifth on a two-run double by Sia and an error.
