Seahawks Shine in County Track Championship

South River freshman and high jumper Kai Dawson took home the county title.

Freshman Kali Dawson won the girls high jump with a 4’10” performance on Wednesday as she competed alongside her fellow South River athletes at the Anne Arundel County Track and Field Championship.

Kali was the only competitor to clear 4’10”, her second highest jump of the season earning her the county title and a gold medal.

The boys’ 4x800-meter relay team placed second earning a silver medal. In a close battle with Severna Park that featured three lead changes, sophomores Chase Rudisill and Brent Musselman joined juniors Trevor Denno and Tommy Hutcheson in their best performance of the year at 8:17.5.

Freshman Reilly Wagner had two top-five finishes including a fifth place finish in the high jump, clearing 4’6” and earning a bronze medal in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.99 seconds, her best of the year. Reilly completed her day by joining Kali Dawson, Anna D’Ambra, and Caroline Thompson on the 4x400-meter relay team earning a fifth place in that event as well.

Freshman Lea Carter earned a tie for third place in the pole vault clearing 8’0” winning a bronze medal. Earlier in the day Lea ran her best time in the mile at 5:56.9, her first time breaking the elusive 6-minute barrier.

Junior Bakari Powell earned a fifth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 19’02”, one of the best jumps of his career.

Tiffany McKinney earned a fifth place finish in the girls 110-meter high hurdles running her best time of the year at 17.12 seconds.
