Summit School Founder to Step Down
Jane Snider founded the school in 1989 and has filled several executive roles over the years.

The founder of announced on Tuesday her plans to step down as executive director following the next school year, according to a press release.
, founded Summit in 1989 and served as head of school until 2010. She then served two years as executive director, a role that saw her earn plenty of recognition.
The news comes just three weeks after Snider received the , one of 13 different honors and awards she received throughout her time with Summit, according to the release.

As Snider transitions out of her role as executive director, the leadership and business development strategist plans to embark on new endeavors with nonprofit groups and schools with organizational development needs, according to the release.
Throughout her time with Summit, Snider was at the center of creating the state-of-the-art school for children with dyslexia while recruiting, fundraising and much more, according to the release.

Sitting on 15 acres of land in Edgewater, the school boasts that it has graduated 1,800 students over the years, sending children to various private and public high schools.
“Snider has been instrumental in recruiting her successor, Joan Mele-McCarthy,” according to the release. “McCarthy was an early friend and advisor to Summit, developing the school’s speech/language program before accepting a political appointment as senior policy advisor in the U.S. Department of Education.”
McCarthy will take over as executive director after Snider steps down following the next school year.
