Medical Examiner's Office Among Largest in the Nation
Eight Patch editors recently got a firsthand look into the science behind examining the deceased.
The office at 900 W. Baltimore St. in Baltimore City is a “24-hour emergency medical institution,” Chief Medical Examiner David Fowler, M.D., told Patch editors who took a recent tour of the facility.
It has one job, and one job only, Fowler said: "Determine the cause of death with a reasonable degree of certainty."
Last week, eight Patch editors walked through the pressurized, refrigerated rooms in the state-of-the-art medical examiner facility, where the job of determining cause of death takes place.
