
The Howard County Bar Association has a new president.
Howard County State's Deputy State's Attorney Mary V. Murphy is a long-time prosecutor in the Circuit Court division. Howard County State's Attorney Dario Broccolino appointed Murphy as deputy state's attorney in 2008.
Murphy has been with the State's Attorney's Office since 1991, when she joined as an assistant state's attorney.

She earned a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Wheaton College and her J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
Throughout her career, Murphy has prosecuted felony cases in a range of areas, from narcotics, child abuse and homicide to property crime.

In addition to this newest appointment, Murphy is active in a number of professional and non-professional organizations. She is the past president of the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland and, in the 1998, she was the recipient of the Howard County Chamber of Commerce's Distinguished Service Award in Prosecution.
