Patapsco Stream Clean Up

? Floods and power outages and downed trees flooded neighborhoods in Ellicott City, damaging property and homes.

Seven months later, Viridian and the Patapsco Heritage Greenway have organized another clean-up to restore yards and gardens and other property damaged along the Hudson Branch of the Patapsco River.

Event:  This is a stream clean up on Saturday, April 7. Lots of trash and debris has to be gathered, sorted, and staged for county pick up.  We will work from 9:00 a.m. until noon. The neighbors will serve a vegan breakfast starting at 8:00 a.m. for those who want to fill up before we begin. We will have water, food, and healthy snacks to keep everyone hydrated and fueled during the event. We want this to be a “waste free” event, so bring as little packaging trash as possible if you bring your own snacks and water. There are limited bathroom facilities, so plan accordingly.

Where: We will gather at 8572 Frederick Road, Ellicott City. Your GPS or Google map should identify it easily. Take the stone steps at the right of the house to get down to the stream. Parallel parking on both sides of Frederick Road should accommodate everyone, but if you cannot find a place, you can park in a lot across the street from the Judges Bench, a pub just down the hill on Frederick Road.

What to bring: Prepare for all weather situations because we will meet rain or shine. Layered clothing is suggested to adapt to changing conditions. Sturdy, waterproof footwear is essential. This is not a flip-flop event. We will be in and about the stream as well as carrying and lifting. Bring your own water bottle too. We will have plenty of water for fill ups but will have some bottled some water if you forget. We have work gloves, but bring your own if you prefer. I always bring sunscreen and insect repellent too, so you may want to include those in your kit.  You do not have to bring any tools - - just your enthusiasm and willingness to have a good time.
