Help Provide A Ride For Howard County Youth, Donate Bicycles To Free Bikes 4 Kidz

Drop off an unused bicycle Saturday at any Howard County fire station that will be refurbished and given to kids through Free Bikes 4 Kidz.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — People with used bikes that are no longer wanted are encouraged to drop them off Saturday at any Howard County fire station from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of Free Bikes 4 Kidz bike drive.

According to Ted Cochran with FB4K, the organization has refurbished 180 bicycles for Howard County students who didn't have school bus service. On Wednesday, the organization accepted an additional 58 returned bicycles from Target, which will be refurbished and donated to Howard County kids.

"On Aug. 18, we gave away over 130 of those bikes at Oakland Mills High School. Thanks to The Howard Hughes Corporation for providing space for refurbishing these bikes, HCPSS staff for coordinating the event, Oakland Mills High School for the venue and Trek’s Columbia and Ellicott City stores for providing many of the used bikes we refurbished and gave away. Parents of students who need a bike should work with their schools to get on our list," Cochran said.

Not only are bikes needed on collection day Saturday, volunteers also are needed to receive the bikes at fire stations and to help refurbish them. There will be 20 workstations and at least 10 cleaning stations and plenty of tools, Cochran said. FB4K has a new warehouse for the current campaign located at 8301 Patuxent Range Road in Jessup.
