Howard County Public School System Calendar For 2024-25: Key Dates To Know

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Summer is almost over for Howard County students. The first day of school for Howard County Public School System students will be Aug. 26 for kindergarten through 12th grade students and Aug. 29 for pre-kindergarten and RECC students.

Here are some of the important 2024-25 school year dates to get on the calendar:

Aug. 14 - fall high school sports begin
Aug. 15 - first day for staff
Aug. 26 - first day of school for kindergarten through 12th grade students
Aug. 29 - first day of school for pre-kindergarten and RECC students

Sept. 2 - Labor Day - schools and offices are closed
Sept. 18 - professional work and wellness day - schools close three hours early and no half-day pre-K/RECC

Oct. 3 - schools and offices closed
Oct. 18 - professional work day - schools closed
Oct. 31 - professional work day - schools closed

Nov. 5 - Election Day - schools and officers are closed
Nov. 25 - schools close three hours earlier; no half-day pre-K/RECC
Nov. 25 - elementary school and middle school parent/teacher conferences
Nov. 26 - schools close three hours earlier; no half-day pre-K/RECC
Nov. 26 - elementary school and middle school parent/teacher conferences
Nov. 27 - schools closed; parent/teacher conferences
