New Auditor Voted In By Howard County Council

The Howard County Council has unanimously voted in a new auditor who will assume his role Feb. 10.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The Howard County Council has unanimously voted in Christopher Ashman, CPA, as the new county auditor during the Council’s legislative session Feb. 3.

Previously, Ashman served as an audit director at the accounting firm Clifton Larson Allen and Sikich, LLC. Ashman will officially begin his role Feb. 10.

“After conducting a thorough search for a new county auditor, we are pleased to welcome Mr. Ashman to the Office of the County Council,” said Chairperson Liz Walsh. “With his extensive experience working in public and private accounting, we are confident that Mr. Ashman will be successful in this role.”

Ashman brings more than two decades of experience in financial oversight and auditing. Throughout his career, Ashman has planned, coordinated and executed financial statement audits and provided strategic financial guidance to numerous organizations.

As county auditor, Ashman will be responsible for developing and executing the county’s audit plan, including providing the County Council and county executive with the county’s annual comprehensive financial report and conducting performance audits to evaluate internal controls, compliance with laws and regulations, and effectiveness and efficiencies.
