Celebrate International Observe The Moon Night On Sept. 26

GAITHERSBURG, MD — The Gaithersburg Community Museum will be hosting a Facebook discussion on Saturday, Sept. 26, in honor of International Observe the Moon Night.

The family-friendly event, called "Measuring Light from the Moon," will take place on the museum's Facebook page at 7 p.m., and feature physicist John Woodward.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is measuring the light from Earth's nearest neighbor, the Moon. NIST, along with NASA and the U.S. Geologic Survey (USGS), are collaborating to make high-accuracy measurements of the lunar spectral irradiance. NIST has both ground-based and airborne experiments to measure how much light of different wavelengths reflect from the Moon. NIST Physicist John Woodward will talk about the Lunar Spectral Irradiance Projects at NIST, the science involved and the practical benefits. [Gaithersburg Community Museum]
