Gaithersburg Hosts Solar Power Workshop

Homeowners and small business owners are invited to explore the benefits of being part of the Montgomery County Solar Co-op.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — The City of Gaithersburg is joining Solar United Neighbors and several other local agencies to host a workshop for residents interested in going solar.

Homeowners and small business owners can explore the benefits of being part of the Montgomery County Solar Co-op during this workshop. Solar United Neighbors is a national organization focused on the needs and interests of solar owners and supporters.

"Gaithersburg is interested in seeing more renewable energy from within the boundaries of the community, helping in our efforts to ‘green the grid,'" Gaithersburg Sustainability Coordinator Dyan Backe said in a statement.

“We’re trying to help our residents learn how going solar is good for the environment, how participating in a co-op can be good for their wallet, and how pooling their collective buying power can help save money if they decide to make the switch," Backe said.

Other sponsors of the workshop include environmental organizations associated with the municipalities of Rockville, Poolesville and Takoma Park, along with One Montgomery Green and the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection.

The event will be held Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. at Casey Community Center, 810 South Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg. Admission is free.
