MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Montgomery County residents are rallying around a Gaithersburg woman and her pet pig after the animal was injured in what she described as a vicious dog attack.

In a fundraiser shared on GoFundMe, Emily Hanna said her pet pig, Oliver, was attacked by what she believed were loose dogs while he was in his barn.

"Oliver suffered significant wounds, including deep, 2-inch puncture wounds from bites around his head and neck, a shredded ear and a large laceration in his flank that went through several layers of muscle," she wrote.

According to Hanna, Oliver underwent surgery on Thursday at New Bolton Medical Center.

While Oliver did well through the surgery and his prognosis is good, Hanna said he has a "long and arduous" recovery ahead of him.

"He is expected to stay in the hospital for the next week before returning to Montgomery County with me, so I can continue providing him close care and support," Hanna wrote.

The cost of Oliver’s hospital stay is estimated at $3,000, which does not include the emergency vet care he received before he was taken to the hospital. Hanna started her fundraiser in hopes that the community would contribute toward the expenses.

"While I am committed to providing the best care I possibly can for Oliver, I am humbly asking for extra support from his friends and following who have also known and loved him," Hanna wrote. "Any amount and support is so appreciated by me and Oliver."
