MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — A 20-foot-wide sinkhole that emerged on Interstate 270 last week will affect Montgomery County Ride On bus routes, officials shared Tuesday.

The sinkhole forced the closure of two southbound lanes, which was caused by a damaged drainage pipe under the highway. The 30-inch pipe made of corrugated metal was damaged near the right lane and shoulder of the highway, transportation officials said.

Effective immediately, Ride On bus Routes 70,71,73,78,79 and 100 will experience detours all day for up to two weeks.
