Sketch Of Gaithersburg Bus Stop Rapist Released By Police

Police released a composite sketch depicting a man who they believe raped a woman​ while she was waiting at a bus stop in Gaithersburg.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Montgomery County Police released a composite sketch depicting a man who they believe attacked and raped a woman while she was waiting at a bus stop in Gaithersburg Oct. 6.

Police say the woman was waiting at the bus stop at Watkins Mills Road and Travis Lane at about 5:30 a.m. when she was approached by a male suspect. The suspect allegedly grabbed the woman and pulled her toward a wooded area next to the bus stop. The man then sexually assaulted her and fled from the area, police said.

The woman ran from the area and called police at about 6:12 a.m. She was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officers and K9 units canvassed the scene but did not find the suspect, police said.

Detectives recently sought the services of Parabon NanoLabs, a DNA technology company in Virginia that specializes in DNA phenotyping — the process of predicting physical appearance and ancestry from unidentified DNA evidence.

A DNA profile of the suspect was obtained from evidence the suspect left at the scene to make the composite sketch above, police said.

Detectives are urging anyone who recognizes this suspect to call the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5050. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to their line that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this rape.
