Woman Says She Was Raped At Bus Stop In Gaithersburg: Police

UPDATED: A woman told police she was attacked and raped while waiting at a bus stop in Gaithersburg early Friday morning.

(Updated at 2 p.m. Friday): GAITHERSBURG, MD — A woman told police she was attacked and raped while waiting at a bus stop in Gaithersburg early Friday morning.

Police say the woman was waiting at the bus stop at Watkins Mills Road and Travis Lane at about 5:30 a.m. when she was approached by a male suspect. The suspect allegedly grabbed the woman and pulled her toward a wooded area next to the bus stop. The man then sexually assaulted the woman and fled from the area, police said.

The woman ran from the area and called police at about 6:12 a.m. She was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officers and K9 units canvassed the scene, but did not find the suspect, police said.

Police describe the suspect as a black male in his twenties. He was wearing a dark-colored, checkered shirt or jacket, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have information about this sexual assault to call the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5050. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to their line that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this sexual assault.
