"You just do not see this happening elsewhere locally," said the ABS Retail Chief of the lottery for MOCO, MD residents to buy rare whiskey.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — ABS stores in Montgomery County are opening lotteries that will give MOCO and Maryland residents a chance to buy bottles of rare whiskey, the county said in a news release.

There will be 378 bottles available for purchase, including a 2020 release of a Pappy Van Winkle six-bottle set, a Buffalo Trace Antique Collection five-bottle set and a Michter’s 20-year bourbon for county residents, and bottles from Colonel EH Taylor Jr. Warehouse C for state residents.

“ABS is able to procure items that neighboring jurisdictions cannot get, or get very little of, and we offer them at fair pricing to give people access,” said ABS Retail Chief Kent Massie in a news release. “You just do not see this happening elsewhere locally.”

Lottery registration will open at noon on Sunday, April 3 and will close 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, April 9. After a random drawing, the winning numbers will be posted online at noon on Monday, April 18 — winners will be able to buy bottles from a designated store April 22, through May 1.
