Bank Robberies Arrest: Germantown Man, 31, Charged
Steven Beitzel, a 31-year-old Germantown man, was charged with a string of robberies in Germantown, Darnestown and Poolesville.

GERMANTOWN, MD — A 31-year-old man has been charged with three robberies that took place in December 2021 and January 2022 in Germantown, Poolesville, and Darnestown.
Steven Beitzel, a Germantown resident, was arrested by Rockville City Police on Jan. 12, after officers saw him driving a dirt bike on Shady Grove Road without a helmet — officers said he matched the description of the bank robbery suspect. Police say that Beitzel tried to get away, but was arrested.
Beitzel is accused of robbing the BB&T Bank in the 19600 block of Fisher Ave. in Poolesville on Dec. 14 and the SunTrust Bank in the 14100 block of Darnestown Road on Jan. 5. Police say he attempted to rob the same BB&T Bank in Poolesville on Jan. 11, but employees locked the front doors and he couldn't get in.

Montgomery County Police say he then fled and went to the Capital One Bank in the 21100 block of Frederick Road in Germantown, but left after seeing reinforced glass partition at the teller counter. Police say he left on a dirt bike. Later that afternoon, he robbed the M&T Bank in the 21000 block of Frederick Road in Germantown, police said.
Police did not say how much money Beitzel stole during the robberies, or if he had a weapon.
