High-end shopping is in Clarksburg’s future.

Tanger Outlet Centers and Peterson Cos. announced Tuesday their plans to build an upscale outlet mall at the interchange of Interstate 270 and Stringtown Road.

The outlet center is in the pre-development stage, according to a press release from Tanger. The release did not specify the size or scope of the site.

Peterson Cos. purchased the site—part of the 100-acre Miles-Coppula property—in February 2012, The Gazette reported. The outlet is expected to occupy 40 acres, Taylor Chess, Peterson Cos. senior vice president of retail, told the newspaper.

Tanger and Peterson are collaborating on Tanger Outlets National Harbor, which is due for completion in Prince George’s County late this year, according to The Washington Business Journal.
