Possible Explosives Detected At Dept. Of Energy In Germantown: Reports

GERMANTOWN, MD — Police responded to the Department of Energy building in Germantown on Wednesday after a bomb-detecting dog alerted security to possible explosives inside a vehicle, according to reports and Montgomery County police.

According to a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, police said the entrance to the building located in the 19900 block of Germantown Road was closed while Federal Protective Services investigated a report.

Reports by Fox 5 DC and WUSA said police were called to the building around 9 a.m. after a dog alerted security to possible explosives inside a gray Subaru.

According to a WUSA report, the Subaru was stopped at the facility's gate while bomb squad personnel searched inside the vehicle.

No explosive devices were found and no one was injured, according to reports.

No other details were immediately available.

Drivers were urged to seek an alternative route or expect significant delays, police said. The entrance to the building reopened around 11 a.m., police said in an update.
