Tips Lead To Arrest In Germantown Grocery Store Assault: Police
Police said tips from the public helped them arrest a Germantown woman who allegedly assaulted an employee during an attempted robbery.

GERMANTOWN, MD — A Germantown woman was arrested for allegedly assaulting a grocery store employee while trying to steal baby formula at a Germantown store.
Police arrested Ashley Nachelle Watts, 23, for the incident at Shoppers at 18066 Mateny Rd.
Watts allegedly entered the store at about 9:05 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 and approached the employee who was behind the counter.

Police said she demanded baby formula, which was kept in a locked case. Watts allegedly assaulted the woman behind the counter and fled the grocery store without obtaining any property.
Fire and Rescue personnel responded and took the employee to a local hospital for treatment of her non-life-threatening injuries.

"On August 20, detectives released surveillance video of two suspects to the media and public and asked for help in identifying them. Investigators received multiple tips which led to the identification of Watts as one of the suspects," a police statement said.
"Investigators also identified and interviewed the additional female suspect. During the investigation of the second suspect’s involvement, it was determined that she did not participate in this robbery."
Watts was arrested on the strength of a Montgomery County arrest warrant on Aug. 21. She was charged with one count of robbery, one count of second-degree assault and one count of destruction of property.
Watts was released after posting a $3,500 bond.
