GAITHERSBURG, MD — The Montgomery County government, and programs that affect county residents, will have schedule and program changes for Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 11.

Here's a look at what is open and closed:

  • County offices—Closed.
  • State offices and courts—Closed.
  • State Motor Vehicle Administration offices and Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program stations—Closed.
  • Libraries—Closed.
  • Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS)—All stores will be open regular hours.
  • County-operated COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Clinics—Closed.
  • Department of Permitting Services—All offices, including customer service lobby, are closed.
  • Ride On, Ride On extRa, and Ride On Flex—Will operate on a “Holiday” schedule. All schedules can be viewed at https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/DOT-Transit/SpecialHoliday.html.
  • Flash—Will operate on a Holiday schedule (Orange Line only).
  • MARC Train and Commuter Bus—Will operate on its “R” schedule on all three lines.
  • TRiPS Silver Spring commuter store—Open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store—Closed.
  • Metrorail—Will operate on its Saturday Holiday schedule, with trains operating from 5 a.m.-1 a.m.
  • Metrobus and Metro Access—Will operate on a Saturday Supplemental schedule.
  • Parking at public garages, lots, curbside meters—Free.
  • Post Offices: Post offices will be closed Friday.
  • County-provided trash and recycling collections will not be made on Friday, Nov. 11. Those collections will be made on Saturday, Nov. 12. 
  • Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center—Closed.
  • Aquatic Centers—Will operate on normal schedules.

  • Sunday, Nov. 13—Military personnel (veterans and active duty) and their families skate for free during public sessions at Wheaton Ice Arena (3-5 p.m.) and Cabin John Ice Rink (12:30-2:30 p.m.)
  • The Open Parkways schedule will be normal for the holiday with portions of Sligo Creek Parkway and Beach Drive open to pedestrians and bicyclists for exercise and recreation. Open to pedestrians and bicyclists (closed to motor vehicles) from 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, through 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14: Sligo Creek Parkway (Old Carroll Avenue to Piney Branch Road—1.1 miles—and Forest Glen Road to University Boulevard West—1.5 miles; Beach Drive from Connecticut Avenue to Knowles Avenue—2.7 miles.
  • Open for the holidays—Parks, trails, gardens, playgrounds, dog parks, skate parks, outdoor exercise stations, and outdoor tennis/pickleball and basketball courts.
  • The inline hockey rink at Ridge Road Recreational Park and street hockey/futsal rink at Dewey Local Park may be permitted, or are available first-come, first-served, if not reserved.
  • Picnic shelters and campfire rings are available for rental at several locations.   
  • Little Bennett Campground, South Germantown Driving Range and Brookside Gardens grounds are open daily sunrise-sunset, The Brookside Gardens visitor center will be open daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The gift shop will be open daily 10 a.m.-4 p.m., The conservatory will be open daily 10 a.m.-5 p.m.  
  • Josiah Henson Museum and Park will be open Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday, noon-4 p.m.
  • Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park museum and visitor center will be open Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday, noon-4 p.m.
  • Montgomery Parks headquarters and permits offices—Closed Friday, Nov. 11. Community Recreation and Senior Centers—Closed. After-school programs at some community recreation centers will remain open. Contact local centers for additional information.
  • Montgomery Parks public information and customer service office—Closed Friday, Nov. 11.
