Annapolis Pastor Honored at MLK Jr. Awards Dinner

Ten people received awards for their efforts to keep Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy alive.

Almost 700 people gathered in Glen Burnie on Friday for the Anne Arundel MLK Jr. Awards Dinner.

The crowd included 10 people who were honored for their work that has kept Dr. King’s legacy alive. Among the honorees was the Rev. Dr. Carletta Allen, pastor of the Asbury United Methodist Church of Annapolis.

Allen was recognized for her history of protesting violations of workers’ rights and other civil rights causes; she was even handcuffed and arrested for her beliefs.

Vice Admiral Walter Carter Jr., superintendent of the United States Naval Academy, served as the event’s keynote speaker. Joining him on stage were U.S. Representatives John Sarbanes, Donna Edwards and Dutch Ruppersberger, as well as County Executive Steve Schuh.

Other individuals recognized alongside Allen were Miriam Stanici, community relations director of the Naval Academy; Dr. Larry W. Blum, Alderwoman Rhonda Pindell Charles, Bishop Douglas Miles, Carl Owens, Howard Zeiderman, Jeffrey S. Blum, Monzy Faulkner Jr. and Ramocille Solenza Cooper Johnson.
