Brooklyn Park Residents Displaced After Basement Fire

The fire, which occurred Sunday morning, displaced five adults and two children.

A fire at a row house in Brooklyn Park Sunday morning displaced five adults and two children, according to Lt. Cliff Kooser, Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman.

The fire, at 4914 Brookwood Road, was caused by a malfunctioning furnace. The residents had storage items placed against the furnace, which also ignited.

It took 24 firefighters 11 minutes to get the fire under control.

There were no working smoke detectors in the home and no injuries were reported.

Kooser urged residents to check their smoke detector batteries and to make sure there is at least one working smoke detector in the home.
