Do or Die Mysteries is closed out a murderously funny year at the Sunset Restaurant with one of it’s signature Christmas mystery shows, Slay Ride. It’s hard to believe that Do or Die Mysteries is headed into it’s third season at the Sunset Restaurant in Glen Burnie. The company started with one show per month, but added a second performance night last year. Now you can witness a murder the second and third Monday of every month.
The 2017 schedule is available online. It’s another year of all new shows that change every month. January kicks off with Murder in the Park on the 9th and 16th. Both shows are sold out, but there is a waiting list.
Poe’s Last Stanza also returns for a limited run January 18th and 19th, in celebration of the brilliant poet’s birthday. The show has been surprising audiences for the last three years. It is not your typical doom, gloom and madness offering of Poe’s life and work. While it has more serious moments, it also features Do or Die’s signature comedy, audience interaction and involvement. “The show makes Poe so accessible. I feel like I just hoisted a few pints with him,” says DC Poe fan Michael McWilliams.

2017 will also see a tweak to Sunset’s menu. Flounder has been removed, but Orange Roughy and Fried Stuffed Shrimp has been added.
“The shows have really caught on. We’re seeing people from as far away as Pennsylvania and Northern Virginia. It’s also really fun that we have a loyal following as well. It’s great to see familiar faces at every show,” says CJ Crowe, the group’s founder. "We're also seeing a big jump in people booking private parties for their group," Crowe adds.

“We’re from Lothian, and Slay Ride was our second show. It’s worth the drive. I always laugh so hard that my stomach aches,” says fan Stacey Webster.
Longtime cast member Jose de la Mar sums up the shows’ popularity, “People can be intimidated by the word interactive. They’re afraid one of the cast will make them get up and do the chicken dance, or something equally ridiculous. In our shows, interaction is always initiated by the guests. If you’re a wallflower, you’ll have a great time. If you’re a super sleuth, there’s lots of opportunity to grill the suspects…and if you’re a total extrovert, well, let’s just say, you might find yourself in hot water. But you’ll always laugh and have a great time. Not all mystery companies are as successful as Do or Die in finding that balance.”
The complete 2017 schedule is available on the website. Shows change each month, and there are no repeats from last year’s lineup. Shows tend to sell out 4-6 weeks in advance. In the case of early sell out, additional shows are added whenever possible. Private shows are also available for groups of 35 to 55 at the Sunset Restaurant, and 35-110 at The Admiral Fell Inn in Fells Point.
Tickets ($56.50) include dinner, show, tax, and non-alcoholic beverages. Cocktail service is available, but is not included in the ticket price. Guests will have a choice of four entrée items.
Do or Die Mysteries will also kick off a new location on Valentine’s Day in 2017. The company will be moving into the Admiral Fell Inn. After the Valentine’s Day start, shows will be performed the third Thursday of every month. Ticket price is $75.00 for the Valentine’s Day show and $65.00 for the regularly scheduled shows, the third Thursday of every month.
About Do or Die Mysteries
Do or Die Productions was founded by CJ Crowe and has been inviting audiences to Eat, Drink and be Wary since 1993.
Comedy and interaction are the key elements in every Do or Die show. The majority of shows are murder mysteries, however, Poe’s Last Stanza has recently been added to the lineup. Poe’s Last Stanza is mysterious, but is not a murder mystery. More non-murder oriented interactive scripts are in the works.
Do or Die has performed as the house mystery company for Blair Mansion Restaurant (sorry folks, it’s closed now), Chesapeake Music Hall (sorry, folks, this one closed too. Nothing to do with us – we swear), Flanagan’s Harp and Fiddle in Bethesda (we left), Chesapeake Arts Center and myriad corporate parties and fundraisers. Currently Do or Die performs regularly at the Grand, 225 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD, and the Sunset Restaurant, 625 Greenway in Glen Burnie, MD.
In 2015 Do or Die Productions was nominated in the category of Best Professional Comic Improv Troupe by the Maryland Theatre Guide Reader’s Choice Awards. We lost. As of 2016, it is the only murder mystery company in the Maryland/DC/Virginia corridor with a 5 start YELP rating.
In short, we aim to please – but we shoot to kill.
