Drop Off Donations for Homeless Resource Day

The fifth annual Homeless Resource Day takes place Saturday at Glen Burnie High School and the county is asking residents for donations.

On Saturday, about 800 people are expected to attend the fifth annual Homeless Resource Day at , according to the Maryland Gazette, and the county is asking residents for help.

The office of County Executive John R. Leopold released a list of items that are needed for the event, which include pop-top food, blankets and socks for men and women, among other items.

"This event is a great way to give a leg up to people hardest hit by this downturned economy," Leopold said in a press release. "We are very proud of this unique event that provides food and basic items for homeless individuals and families, but also referral to job training. We provide a place to get a haircut, an identification card and other necessities to finding a job.”

Residents can drop items off on from 4 to 5 p.m. on Friday at Glen Burnie High.

According to the press release, 417 volunteers assisted 674 homeless people with services such as providing photo identification and birth certificates and offering legal and veterans assistance.

will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Bulk items needed:

  • Pop-top cans of fruit and pop-top cans of canned meats, i.e., Vienna Sausages
    Tuna kits (come with crackers, packaged tuna and plastic utensils)
  • Granola bars, Pop Tarts, individual sized juice and milk boxes (non-perishable)
  • Peanut butter and jelly, loaves of bread
  • Cheese or peanut butter crackers, small packages of crackers
  • Non-refrigerated pudding cups
  • Small boxes of cereal that become their own bowls
  • 8 oz bottles of water plastic eating utensils
  • Individual wipes
  • Tube socks (men or women’s sizes)
  • Underwear (for men or women)
  • New blankets (adult and baby)
