Police: Employee Takes Gun, Strikes Would-Be Robber in Glen Burnie

A report says an employee at Mikie's Diner scared off a would-be robber after taking the suspect's gun and striking him.

Anne Arundel County police are seeking information on the suspect in an attempted armed robbery early Wednesday at Mikie's Diner in Glen Burnie.

But the suspect did not walk away unscathed, according to police.

Shortly after 6 a.m., a man carrying a firearm entered Mikie's Diner on the 1200 block of Crain Highway and confronted an employee.

Police said the employee started fighting the suspect, took the gun away from him and began striking the suspect repeatedly with the gun. The suspect fled south on Crain Highway, according to police.

Arriving officers searched the immediate area, but failed to locate the suspect. Police recovered the weapon, and said the investigation is ongoing.

Police described the suspect as a black male, in his late 20s or early 30s, with a heavy build and dreadlocks, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
