Fatal DUI Crash In Glen Burnie Kills Pasadena Man, Hospitalizes 3 Others: Police

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A fatal crash in Glen Burnie prompted manslaughter and driving under the influence charges, county police announced this weekend.

Officers said one person died and three others were hospitalized after the three-car wreck.

Authorities identified the late victim as 36-year old Brandon E. Deleon of Pasadena and the accused driver as 35-year-old Pedro Balmore Baires Beltran of Glen Burnie.

Evidence suggested that the suspect may have been drinking alcohol, police said. Officers also alleged that he may have been driving at an excessive speed.

Authorities said the crash happened Sunday around 12:49 p.m. on southbound Ritchie Highway at Marley Station Road.

Witnesses reported that the suspect was heading south on Ritchie Highway in a 2008 Toyota Tundra pick-up truck and failed to stop for a steady red traffic signal at this intersection, police said.

As the truck entered the intersection, officers said it hit a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox SUV turning left toward Marley Station Mall.

Officers said those two cars then hit a 2013 BMW that was also turning left into the mall parking lot.

The pick-up truck driver sustained life-threatening injuries and went to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, authorities said.

Medics took the truck's 13-year-old passenger to the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, police said. Officers expect the juvenile to survive.

Authorities said the SUV driver went to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious injuries. Police also expect this victim to survive.

The deceased victim was a passenger in the SUV, officers said.

THE BMW driver was not hurt.

Authorities said they contacted the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office, which decided to charge the pick-up truck driver with these offenses:

• 2-209 - Negligent Manslaughter
• 2-210 - Criminally Negligent Manslaughter
• 2-503(a) - Homicide while under the influence of alcohol
• 3-211(c)(1)(i) Life-threatening injury by MV while under the influence of alcohol
• 3-211(d)(1) Life-threatening injury by MV while impaired by alcohol
• 21-902(a)(2)(i)(1) - Drive under the influence of alcohol while transporting a minor
• 21-902(b)(2)(i) - Drive while impaired with alcohol while transporting a minor

The Anne Arundel County Police Department is still investigating.
