Here are the top 4 stories today in Glen Burnie:
- A challenge was made to the Glass Glen Burnie Foundation (GGBF) to show our community they have the proper vision for their land and property for which they are entrusted. It also challenge them also to let their actions more accurately reflect their own mission statement, including "properties preserved as historic buildings and grounds for the education and other benefit of the public forever." Certainly when one thinks of preservation , the sale of land for development of 74 homes doesn’t cross your mind. Yet that’s exactly what GGBF has planned, as shown by their purchase agreement with Elevate homes, an out of town developer, who is requesting a PUD rezoning of the 20 back acres of GGBF land that abuts the newly constructed Trails enjoyed by so many. (The Winchester Star)
- On Sep. 28, the Anne Arundel County Police Department was notified by school officials of allegations involving a sexual relationship between a student and an employee of Old Mill High School. The School Resource Officer and school officials interviewed the student as it was learned that the student was sexually assaulted by the staff member the day prior, 09/27/2021. Notification was made to the Board of Education and the staff member was banned from returning to Old Mill High School while the investigation was ongoing. (Southern Maryland News Net)
- A juvenile taken into custody Friday morning at Glen Burnie High School had a knife, police said. Anne Arundel County police said school employees and a school resource officer were standing near the school cafeteria during lunch around 11:30 a.m. when they saw a "highly agitated" 17-year-old boy trying to fight a student. (WBAL TV Baltimore)
- On Thursday, Nov.26, 2020, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Anne Arundel County Police Western District officers responded to the area of Meade Village Road and Meade Village Circle in Severn for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Injuries appear to be life-threatening and the victims were transported to area hospitals. Preliminary information indications this was a targeted incident and not a random act of violence. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available. (Anne Arundel County)
