Hines Suspends Campaign for District 2 Seat

Ian "Pat" Hines announced the suspension of his campaign, citing a conflict with his job at the Maryland Department of Human Resources, according to his campaign website.

Weeks into his campaign for the District 2 County Council seat, Ian "Pat" Hines announced the suspension of his campaign.

Hines cited the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal employees from running for partisan political positions. Hines is the communications manager for the Maryland Department of Human Resources, a position that is partially funded by federal money, according to his campaign website.

"My desire to serve my community is unchanged, and if my circumstances change I plan to resume my campaign. As of now, however, I must suspend my campaign indefinitely," he said on his website.
