Police Say Man Fled Robbery, Hit Police Cars

In a separate incident, a male suspect allegedly pistol-whipped and robbed a man at a Linthicum Hotel on Thursday afternoon.

Glen Burnie: Robbery, police chase

Anne Arundel County police arrested a man who they say robbed a Glen Burnie beauty store and led them on a chase that ended with the man crashing into police vehicles in Gambrills.

Derrick Christopher Lanham, 45, of no fixed address was charged with robbery, theft less than $1,000 and nearly 20 traffic charges, according to online court documents. Police have not released his booking photo due to an ongoing investigation.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the Sally Beauty Supply store located in the 7900 block of Crain Highway in Glen Burnie at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday for a reported robbery. They spoke with the store clerk who said that a man entered the store and went to the counter to make a purchase.

Once the register was open, the clerk said the man grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash, threatened the clerk and stole other items before fleeing the store in a white sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry, police said. The clerk was not injured.

Police broadcast the description of the suspect's car and, at about 10:38 a.m., officers spotted it heading south on Maryland Route 3 near McKnew Road in Gambrills. Officers tried to stop the car, but police said the man fled and continued traveling on Route 3 south. Officers followed the suspect until he crashed into police vehicles near Route 450, police said.

Three people—including Lanham, who was in police custody—were , according to Anne Arundel County fire spokesman Capt. James Rostek.

Lanham remained in custody at the hospital and was later taken to the Eastern District Police Department and charged.

Linthicum: Armed robbery

Police said a male suspect robbed a man in his Linthicum hotel room Thursday afternoon.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the Homestead Village Inn located in the 900 block of International Drive in Linthicum at about 1:50 p.m. Thursday for a reported armed robbery.

Officers spoke with the victim, a 19-year-old man, who said he was leaving his hotel room when a he saw a male suspect standing at his door who ordered him back into his room. Once inside the room, police said the suspect pistol-whipped the victim, took an undisclosed amount of cash and personal items from the teen before fleeing the area.

Police and a K-9 unit searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The victim sustained a minor injury and was treated at a nearby hospital.
