Man Dies In Glen Burnie House Fire, 2nd Fatal Blaze In A Week

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A man was found dead inside a Glen Burnie home following a fire, the second fatal fire in the county this week, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

A 911 call from someone driving by noticed smoke and fire coming from 410 Summit Ave. (Marley) in Glen Burnie about 6:04 a.m. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded with 35 firefighters and found a single-family, one-story home in flames and smoke.

Once crews extinguished the fire, they found an adult male during a search of the residence. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The State Medical Examiners' office is investigating the cause of death.

The fire department said this is the second fire-related death in Anne Arundel County in 2023. On May 3, John S. Billing, 54, died as a result of injuries he suffered during a fire at his home, which had working smoke alarms.

Anne Arundel County Fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire and confirm the identity of the victim. No damage estimate has been released.

There were no smoke detectors working in the home, the department said.
