Man Faces Charges of Attempted Murder of Girlfriend

Police said David William Wright, 44, is accused of shooting his girlfriend in the lower torso during an argument.

A Glen Burnie man is accused of shooting his girlfriend during an argument on Thursday night in Linthicum.

David William Wright, 44, of the 100 block of Linwood Drive was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, use of a handgun in commission of a violent crime and reckless endangerment, according to police.

Officers responded to the 800 block of White Avenue in Linthicum for a reported domestic-related shooting, according to a police press release. Officers spoke with a 59-year-old woman who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to her lower torso.

The woman told police that Wright, who she said is her boyfriend, shot her and then ran from the home. Officers searched the area and found him on Andover Road.

Police said that, according to investigation and interviews with the victim and a witness,the couple was arguing and Wright began to physically assault the woman. She said she got a handgun, pointed it at Wright and told him to leave.

The woman told police Wright then grabbed the gun from her and shot her in the lower torso. Another male resident of the home confronted Wright, who sustained injuries in the altercation, before Wright fled the scene.

The woman and Wright both were transported to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. According to a release, the woman was listed as being in stable condition as of Friday morning. Police said Wright was treated, released and charged.
