Obituary: Charles Andrew Ross

Charles Ross, a lifelong resident of Glen Burnie and veteran of the United States Air Force, has passed away at the age of 62.

Charles Andrew Ross, Jr, age 62, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, passed away in his home Thursday, July 22, 2021, of natural causes.

Charles, known as Andy or Charlie, was born in Baltimore and raised in Glen Burnie to the late Charles Sr. and late Betty Ross. He earned his degree from Towson University and was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving 20 years. He served honorably, achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant Rank E-6 and was awarded a First Oak Leaf Cluster commendation medal and 1993 International Air Force Soccer Championship.

When Charles left the military, he pursued a new mission working with various government agencies, most recently as the Branch Chief (GS-12) of the Information Technology Department of the Defense Health Agency, of the DOD. He was awarded five commendations throughout his tenure.

Charlie’s experience in the Air Force played a very important role in his life. Through his service, he became a world traveler. He frequently pointed out that the Air Force taught him the value of discipline, teamwork, and investing in a cause larger than himself. He would often explain to loved ones how these values contributed to his successes.

A genuinely good-hearted person and loving father, Charlie enjoyed collecting antiques of varying interests, was a huge movie fan, a fiction enthusiast, and loved the magical things in this world both real and imagined. A knife guy that liked to dress sharp. He had recent plans to retire and travel with his wife.

Mr. Ross is survived by and remembered with love by wife, Dawn, five children: Rebecca, Stacy, Charles III, Katherine, and Ryan; ex-wife Michelle, step-children Bryan and the late Irene; grandchild, Monroe; sister Carol; brothers David and Walter; and mother-in-law Carolyn; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the Maryland area.

Friends and family are welcomed at Arundel Christian Church, which is hosting a Celebration of Life service this Saturday, July 31, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Honor Guard will perform a presentation of the flag at 1030 a.m. Charles wished to be cremated and his family will hold the remains at his private residence and plant a redwood tree in his honor.
