Without Power? What Are You Doing to Keep Busy?

Some residents go out in search of power, others stayed home to wait it out. What are you doing?

Heritage Hills resident Kristin Daner said her power went out from Hurricane Irene at about 2 a.m. Sunday.

She said she was still up at the time, but when her children woke up Sunday morning she knew she would need to find some electricity.

"I just said, 'Let's go out and see what has power.' I knew there had to be some places open," Daner said.

Daner grabbed her children—2 1/2-year-old Jacob and 7-year-old Samantha—and went out to explore, winding up at the Starbucks in the 6600 block of Ritchie Highway.

Grabbing some coffee and snacks for her and her children, she pulled out her laptop.

"I needed to do some school work," she said.

Daner said she hadn't yet contacted the power company but figured they were on top of things.

"They're on it, I'm sure. We're just trying to be patient," she said.

Daner said her children handled the storm very well and even played a bit in the rain in front of their home last night.

Is she concerned about how long the power may be out? Not really.

"We have family in the area if we need to head there," she said.
