Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Psi Epsilon Omega Chapter
Supports Mental Health Awareness for Healthy Minds and Strong Families

Prince George’s County, Md. — In partnership with Montpelier Elementary School in Laurel, MD, the Psi Epsilon Omega (PEO) Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority, Inc.® is addressing mental health issues for families in Prince George’s County during Mental Health Awareness Month.
On May 31, PEO will host a Mental Health Fair with the theme “Healthy Minds, Strong Families.” This dynamic wellness event is designed to support the emotional and mental well-being of the entire family. The interactive fair will feature a mini family boot camp, an expert panel discussion on family mental health, and seven engaging wellness stations covering everything from mindfulness and nutrition, to stress relief and sleep hygiene. Attendees will also enjoy access to local mental health resources, giveaways, a kids’ corner, and creative self-care activities for all ages.
“Mental health awareness is important for families because it allows them to recognize, understand, and support their loved ones’ mental health needs,” said Karen S. Hicks, PEO president. “Events like this one are important, particularly because mental health discussions are limited in our community. We now have an opportunity to speak about the ramifications of systemic mental healthcare shortages and how that affects our lives holistically.”
