• Paid firefighters return to Berwyn Heights (streetcarsuburbs.news) — Greenbelt residents can expect career firefighters to return to their local station as Prince George’s County rebuilds staffing, after earlier cuts that cities including Greenbelt challenged in court. Berwyn Heights has already regained paid day-shift crews, easing volunteer burnout and improving regional emergency coverage that also affects Greenbelt and College Park.

Porch pirates strike Rockville apartment complex back-to-back (wjla.com) — Greenbelt residents recently dealt with 35 car break-ins, a reminder to remove valuables from vehicles and stay alert, especially during the busy holiday season. A nearby Rockville complex is also seeing back-to-back package thefts, and police across the region urge people to track deliveries, use cameras when possible, and promptly report suspicious activity.
   

• NASA's TRACERS Spacecraft Begin Preliminary Science Data Collection (nasa.gov) — NASA’s TRACERS mission, managed from Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, is now collecting preliminary science data to better understand space weather that can affect power grids and communications on Earth. One spacecraft is fully healthy, while the other operates with workarounds after a power issue, prompting a shift to focus on Earth’s southern polar cusp.
