Sign Announces New Names for Forest Preserve

Greenbelters have their own various names for their beloved forest, from the Great North Woods to the South Preserve. That may or may not continue. But on July 11, 2011, Greenbelt City Council voted 7-0 to give official names to segments of the forest preserve at the recommendation of the Forest Preserve Advisory Board (FPAB).

The vote also included giving the preserve itself an official name: Greenbelt Forest Preserve.

The Official Names for the Greenbelt Forest Preserve

• Greenbelt Forest Preserve, North Woods Tract (which some refer to as the Great North Woods)

• Greenbelt Forest Preserve, Hamilton Woods Tract (which some call the South Woods or South Preserve)

• Greenbelt Forest Preserve, Boxwood Tract

• Greenbelt Forest Preserve, Belle Point Tract
