Glenn, Martin, Smith Win Seats on City Council

Dave Glenn, Joseph Smith and Bill Martin earned seats on City Council Tuesday in one of the largest voter turnouts in a non-mayoral election in Havre de Grace history.

Glenn and Smith—challengers and first-time candidates—join Martin, the current City Council president, who will serve his third consecutive term on the council.

The results are unofficial, pending approximately 40 provisional ballots. Smith held a 109-vote lead over fourth-place finisher and 16-year City Councilman Fred Cullum.

A total of 1,515 votes were cast Tuesday. 

Glenn, Smith and Martin will join sitting council members Barbara Wagner, John Correri and Randy Craig, as well as Mayor Wayne Dougherty—whose seats will be up for election in May 2013—on the dais.

The polling place at St. Patrick's Church Hall on Pennington Avenue was open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

• 2011: 1,849 ballots
• 2010: 1,179 ballots
• 2009: 830 ballots
• 2008: 1,054 ballots
• 2007: 1,897 ballots 

The newly-elected officials will be sworn in during the City Council meeting on May 21.
