ABERDEEN, MD — Drive-thru testing for COVID-19 began Monday morning at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen. By Monday night, organizers made some tweaks, including a preregistration option.

Traffic was an issue on opening day of the COVID-19 testing operation. Drive-thru testing was to start at 9 a.m. but lines began long before.

"For those who are coming to Ripken today to get tested, the line goes out to Long Dr. and 22," the Harford County Health Department reported before 9:30 a.m. "Please be patient and expect wait times. Thank you!"

Some people commented on the health department's Facebook post that they waited more than four hours to get a test. At 3 p.m., health officials said they had to cut off the testing line, only allowing those in vehicles that had made it to the parking lot to get tested.

At 9:30 p.m., health officials said they had opened a preregistration site to "help with some of the wait time at the testing center" going forward.

Those who get tested at the Ripken Stadium drive-thru site will get a rapid test as well as a PCR test.

People are asked to bring their photo identification and insurance card, if they have one.

To get tested, people must stay in their vehicles and wear face coverings. They do not have to be Harford County residents.

COVID-19 testing will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Saturday at 873 Long Drive in Aberdeen.

Those who are looking for walk-up testing can go to the Upper Chesapeake site in Bel Air.
