Police Say Bank Robber Apprehended

Police said they have arrested a man they believe is responsible for at least five bank robberies in four counties since March 23.

James Young Starcher, 31, of the 200 block of Marysville Road in North East, was arrested Friday and charged with robbery and theft of less than $1,000 in connection with , according to Monica Worrell, spokeswoman for the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

That investigation was handled by , but the case  required cooperation among authorities in four counties in two states.

Worrell said cooperation was imperative, with “multi-state, multi-jurisdictional investigators working cooperatively to share intelligence” leading to the arrest.

Worrell said the Oxford (PA) police department in Chester County, PA began coordinating with local agencies on April 25 after learning that a suspect in the APG credit union robbery matched a description in a robbery of a Coatesville Bank on South Third Street in Oxford on April 19.

Worrell said the suspect also matched the description of a suspect in a March 23 robbery of Cecil Federal Savings Bank in Elkton, the March 30 robbery of an M&T Bank in Delta, PA, and  in Havre de Grace.

After obtaining a search warrant for Starcher’s home, police said they found evidence at the residence linking him to the crimes in Harford County.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office charged him Thursday night, and Havre de Grace police followed with its own charges on Friday.

As of Monday, Starcher was being held on $350,000 bond at the Cecil County Detention Center.

According to Maryland State judiciary records, past charges against Starcher include burglary, assault, malicious destruction of property and robbery.

Those records also show he was arrested on a fugitive warrant from Pennsylvania on April 24.
