1. 2 teens, 2 Virginia men arrested on gun charges in car rally enforcement effort in Maryland (wbaltv.com) — State police broke up illegal car rallies at two Hyattsville industrial locations, including 2801 52nd Ave. and 3912 Ironwood Place, as part of a multi-county crackdown. Officers say they prevented crowds of up to 300 people from blocking roads and arrested four people on gun charges, including two teens from Silver Spring and two men from Virginia.
   

2. Longtime Maryland state delegate for Prince George's County will not seek reelection (wjla.com) — A longtime voice for Hyattsville and surrounding communities in Annapolis, Delegate Anne Healey, will not seek reelection after finishing her current term representing District 22. Healey, who once served on the Hyattsville City Council, has held key leadership roles in the Maryland House over 35 years. She says she’s proud of supporting policies that reflect the area’s growing diversity.

High school basketball rankings: Benet Academy headlines four new teams in MaxPreps Top 25 (maxpreps.com) — National high school basketball rankings briefly spotlight DeMatha Catholic of Hyattsville, noting a 70-62 loss at the Hoophall West tournament. While the piece mainly tracks top teams nationwide, it gives Hyattsville fans quick context on how their powerhouse program is faring against elite competition this season.
   

4. 2026 MSEA ESP Professional Development Conference (marylandeducators.org) — An all-day MSEA professional development conference for education support professionals is coming to the College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Hyattsville on February 28, 2026. Local educators can choose from multiple organizing, legal rights, communications, and social justice workshops, plus hear a keynote from Dr. Cierra Kaler-Jones.
