The awards, announced by Governor Wes Moore, support housing, business improvements, and community facilities across Maryland’s disinvested communities, including several projects in Prince George’s County that could boost local economies and services.
   

• Vera Weigel Degenhardt, 92, Travis-Noe Funeral Home (ktvo.com) — Hyattsville readers are remembering longtime resident Vera Weigel Degenhardt, whose life of service included work at the NSA, University of Maryland, and deep involvement at St. Bernard Catholic Church and in disability advocacy. Though funeral services will be held in Kirksville, Missouri, her decades in Hyattsville and Prince George’s County left a lasting impact on local faith and special needs communities.
   

• Maryland State Education Association (marylandeducators.org) — Educators will gather at the College Park Marriott in Hyattsville on February 28, 2026, for MSEA’s IPD Conference focused on “One Big Union: Learning, Advocating, and Empowering.” The members-only event offers full-day professional development, justice-focused workshop strands, and a keynote by social justice educator Dr. Cierra Kaler-Jones, with PD credit available for full attendance.
