Police: Three-Car Collision in Bowie Kills One

The investigation is ongoing for the cause of the accident.

A fatal collision in Bowie killed one driver and left another with serious injuries.

Officers were called to the 11000 block of Lanham Severn Road in Bowie around 6:50 a.m. on Thursday for report of a crash involving three cars, according to a news release. Preliminary investigation suggests the driver of a Chevrolet was heading northbound on Lanham Severn Road when he swerved into the southbound lanes and struck a Toyota head on. A Lexus on the southbound lane was unable to avoid the Chevrolet and also struck the car.

The driver of the Toyota, Calvin Willett, 66, of Undermire Court in Bowie was taken to the hospital where he died shortly after.

The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to the hospital in serious condition, and the driver of the Lexus was not injured.

Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is still investigating the collision. Reasons for the Chevrolet swerving into the southbound lane are unknown.
