Firefighters Battle Multi-Acre Brush Fire Outside Laurel

The blaze reportedly began around 1:30 p.m.

Firefighters from Anne Arundel County and surrounding jurisdictions battled a large brush fire Wednesday afternoon in the Laurel/Maryland City/Russett area.

WBAL reports that the fire started around 1:30 p.m. in the 8200 block of Water Lily Way, which is adjacent to the woods of the Oxbow Lake Nature Preserve.

According to WJLA, the blaze was sparked at Bacontown Park beforing spreading to the neighboring woods. The fire was eventually contained to seven to ten acres before being fully extinguished.

NBC4's Mark Seagraves tweeted this image of firefighters battling the blaze, while photographer Samuel Davis took this shot of a BWI Airport Fire Department Truck on the scene.

Units from Howard County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Talbot County, and Queen Anne's County also assisted in the effort, WJLA reports.

The fire contributed to congestion on MD-295 and MD-198, according to City of Laurel spokesman Pete Piringer.
