Former Super Bowl Champion, Volunteer Coach Allegedly Body Slammed Student

A video of the incident involving Charles Grant at Bowie State University was released.

Ex-New Orleans Saints defensive end Charles Grant has been let go from a volunteer coaching position after an alleged altercation with an unidentified student athlete at Bowie State University.

TMZ released a video allegedly showing Grant body slamming a student in the college’s Leonidas James Physical Education Complex Oct. 30. Standing at 6’3” and 285 pounds, the former BSU football coach was fired.

Charges have not been filed against Grant and police are currently investigating.

Grant played for New Orleans from 2002 to 2009 and won a Super Bowl his last year before playing his final season with the Chicago Bears in 2010.

Bowie State University released the following statement:

“On Friday, Oct. 31, the Bowie State University Department of Athletics became aware of an altercation involving a volunteer coach and a student-athlete, which occurred the previous evening in the gym of the Leonidas S. James Physical Educational Complex.

“The BSU Department of Public Safety is currently investigating the incident. The coach was immediately suspended from his responsibilities, and the department subsequently terminated its relationship with him.

“The Department of Athletics has zero tolerance of behavior that violates the University’s core values and jeopardizes the welfare of student-athletes. We are committed to assuring that all members of our staff exhibit the highest levels of integrity and civility, as we work with students to develop an understanding of personal responsibility on and off the field.”
