• Descendants Petition State to Disinter Bodies Buried at Silver Spring Site (mymcmedia.org) — Laurel residents should know that some burials from a historic Black cemetery in Silver Spring were reportedly moved to Maryland National Memorial Park in Laurel decades ago, and descendants are now petitioning the state to carefully disinter and reinter any remaining graves before road work continues. The effort aims to protect possible graves of formerly enslaved people and create a respectful memorial park.
